Why LOAR is doing this
Growth takes vision.
It also takes someone who believes in it.
Some of the most promising ideas for the future of legal practice are happening inside independent law firms, established boutiques, and the offices of attorneys ready to build something new.
LOAR Growth Grants celebrates that ambition. Whether you’re investing in technology, creating capacity to serve more clients, or making an existing firm stronger, we want to learn what a well-timed $5,000 investment could make possible.
From one law firm to another.
This initiative reflects LOAR’s belief that meaningful professional relationships are built through support, thoughtful work, and shared opportunity—not transactions.
LOAR Growth Grants is a LOAR PLLC business-growth initiative, separate from the SOAR educational scholarship program.

The process
Simple to apply.
Thoughtful in selection.
Inspired by the clear application process of LOAR’s SOAR Skills program, with questions tailored to the business plans of practicing attorneys.
01
Tell us your plan
Complete a short application explaining your practice, growth idea, and how you would allocate $5,000.
02
Rolling review
Applications are reviewed throughout the year for practical value, clarity, feasibility, and potential impact.
03
Receive an award
Selected attorneys sign a one-page grant agreement and receive the full $5,000 in one payment. No receipts or reimbursement paperwork.
04
Make it happen
Put it to work. We’ll check in once, about six months later, to hear how it went. Sharing your story publicly is always optional.
Timing: The initial group of awards is anticipated on or around December 21, 2026. Subsequent awards will be made on a rolling basis while funding remains available. Early applications are encouraged; there is no fixed application deadline.

What matters to us
Good ideas—not connections.
Selections are intended to be based on the quality and feasibility of applicants’ proposed projects, using a consistent review process. No prior relationship with LOAR is needed.
No referrals, client introductions, future legal business, or recommendations are requested or expected in connection with applying for or receiving a grant. Referral activity is not a selection criterion.
Applicants should not submit client-confidential information or privileged materials. Final eligibility, conflicts, permissible uses, and review procedures will be set out in the official program terms before the first awards are made.
People behind the ideas
Meet the attorneys growing what’s next.
When the first LOAR Growth Grant recipients are selected, this space will share their stories: the practices they’re building, the problems they’re solving, and the ideas they’re putting into action.
Selected attorneys may also be invited to participate in LOAR features, interviews, and community recognition. Any independent television coverage will depend on a broadcaster’s editorial decision, and media participation is optional.

Let’s hear what you’re building.
The initial application focuses on your idea, the impact you hope to make, and a rough plan for the $5,000. You don’t need to submit confidential financial records or client details.

Submitting an application does not guarantee an award. Official program rules govern eligibility, evaluation, funding and privacy. Completion of this form does not create an attorney-client relationship with LOAR.
Questions / Answers
The details that matter.
We’ve kept it simple: a short application, one payment if you’re selected, and no receipts. Applications are open now; final program rules will be published before the first awards are made.
Applying
Who can apply?
The program is for Texas-licensed attorneys in good standing who are launching, operating, or growing a Texas law practice. Final eligibility and any exclusions will be defined in official program rules.
How often can I apply?
Once per program year (January through December), and each firm can receive one grant per year. If you aren’t selected, you’re welcome to apply again the following year with the same idea or a new one. Past recipients can apply again after sitting out one program year, so the grants reach as many firms as possible.
Is there an application deadline?
No single fixed deadline is planned. Applications will be considered on a rolling basis throughout the year as funding remains available. The first awards are anticipated around December 21, 2026. Applying early is encouraged.
Will anyone know I applied?
No. Applications are confidential and are used only to run the program. LOAR never publishes the names of applicants, and recipients decide whether their award is announced. Growth Grants are competitive awards for strong ideas, not need-based aid, so being selected is a recognition you can share on your own terms.
How are recipients selected?
Recipients are intended to be selected through a consistent review process considering a project’s feasibility, identified need, potential value, and proposed budget. Referral history or prospective business for LOAR will not be selection criteria.
If you’re selected
How will grant funds be paid?
In one $5,000 payment to your firm, after you sign a one-page grant agreement and provide a W-9. There are no receipts to submit and no reimbursement process. If your firm is still launching and doesn’t have a business account yet, LOAR can pay a vendor of your choice instead. Grants are for firm development, not personal use.
What can I use a $5,000 grant for?
The project you describe in your application. Examples include AI or legal technology, cybersecurity, operations, equipment, staff training, firm-launch costs and projects that improve legal service delivery. You don’t need approval for each purchase; if your plans change significantly, just let us know.
Is there any reporting after I receive a grant?
Just one check-in, about six months after the award: a few sentences or a short call on how the project went. No financial reports and no receipts.
Will I have to appear on television or be featured publicly?
No. Selected attorneys may be invited to share their stories, but media participation is optional. LOAR cannot guarantee coverage by a news program.
Will the award have tax consequences?
Probably. Grants to a business are generally taxable income to that business, whether the money is paid to your firm or to a vendor on your behalf. LOAR may issue a Form 1099 for the grant. Please talk with your own tax adviser.
About the program
How many grants will LOAR award, and why $5,000?
Twenty $5,000 grants each program year, $100,000 in total, subject to published terms and available funding. For a solo or small firm, a well-timed $5,000 can cover the technology, training or launch costs that move a practice forward, and twenty awards let LOAR back more Texas lawyers each year.
Is this a nonprofit or a charitable donation?
No. LOAR Growth Grants is a business-development program funded by LOAR PLLC, a for-profit law firm, and grants go to for-profit law practices. It is separate from SOAR, LOAR’s student scholarship program, which runs through SOAR Texas, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit.
Does LOAR expect referrals from grant recipients?
No. Grants are awarded on the quality and feasibility of the proposed project, and referral activity is not considered at any stage. Recipients have no obligation to LOAR. If you ever want a trial partner for a serious injury matter, LOAR’s Referral Partner Program is a separate relationship, documented in writing with the client’s consent.
