SOAR Texas • Donations + Community

Thank you for your interest in SOAR.

There are many ways to get involved—through giving, showing up, and building relationships that help students feel seen, supported, and ready to lead.

Your support fuels opportunity—and belonging.

SOAR is built on two things: scholarship opportunities and relationships. The funding helps students take the next step. The community helps them keep going—by connecting them with alumni, mentors, and professionals who can open doors, answer questions, and encourage them through the hard parts.

How people typically get involved

💝 Donate 🤝 Relationship Builder 🎉 Attend Events 🏫 Connect Scholars to Alumni

Our emphasis: We’re grateful for donations, but we don’t run high-pressure fundraising. If you’re looking for a high-impact way to contribute, we often encourage people to give their time—show up, volunteer, and help our scholars expand their networks and confidence.

SOAR Texas nonprofit status

SOAR Texas has been a tax-exempt nonprofit since June 2022 and is recognized as a 501(c)(3) organization. Donations are generally tax-deductible.

Become a Relationship Builder

The relationship aspect of SOAR is a critical part of our mission. We introduce scholars to alumni from their school and to professionals working in the same fields they’re studying—so they can learn, grow, and see what’s possible.

What Relationship Builders do

Relationship Builders help scholars by:

  • Making warm introductions to alumni and professionals in relevant industries
  • Answering questions about career paths, internships, and “what I wish I knew” moments
  • Encouraging scholars through transitions and challenges
  • Helping students build confidence and community

Time commitment

There’s no single “right” level of involvement. Some people do a few introductions a year. Others join events and stay engaged throughout the program.

If you tell us your industry and how you’d like to help, we’ll match you with opportunities that fit.

Come to our events

We hope you’ll join us throughout the year—including our LOAR Summer Celebration and tailgates with the SOAR scholars. These gatherings are where relationships form naturally and our community grows.

Documents & Information

SOAR Texas is primarily self-funded, and while we accept donations from the community, we don’t solicit them. We prefer to ask for your time to support and encourage our scholars by attending events or volunteering as a Relationship Builder.

About our foundation classification

SOAR Texas’ funding status means SOAR Texas is classified as a private non-operating foundation under 509(a). Section 509 categorizes organizations as either a public charity or a private foundation (operating or non-operating). Operating foundations are directly involved in operating a charitable project such as a museum. Non-operating foundations serve their charitable purpose primarily by making grants (such as SOAR’s scholarships).

For general information on IRC Section 509(a), visit the IRS site and look under “Charities and Nonprofits” → “Private Foundations.”
